If you are feeling afraid for weeks, months or longer then it is time that you talk to either your family doctor to get a referral to a psychologist, or psychiatrist. If you have a psychologist or psychiatrist already and you are not sharing all of the truth of your feelings, it is time for you to tell the truth.

The problem that many people have is they do not understand or even have knowledge of what post- traumatic stress disorder is. With that, it does affect many people; you may think it is from serving in the military and fighting in the wars. There is only a portion of truth to that; this portion is because until our soldiers came home from the Vietnam War did they put a name to the mental disorder.

This is a real mental issue and illness that through studies been proven that not only does our military that fought in wars has this traumatic disorder. Nevertheless, it can become an issue for anyone that has seen a dangerous event, death, and or domestic violence. Yes, domestic violence can cause this disorder to bear its ugly head after the victim of abuse gets away and is safe.

Other reasons that can cause post-traumatic stress disorder, can be

Such as the following, bad dreams, flashbacks, fear, scary thoughts you cannot stop, worried, guilty or depressed, loneliness, not sleeping , angry outbursts, and thoughts of hurting yourself to stop the feeling of living with this disorder. It is imperative to know that you are not alone, and if you feel any of these, find a doctor or psychiatrist to help you. PTSD can start as soon as the frightening event or developing new and more severe signs of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Domestic violence has grown by the millions now, and the victims who live in a household with violence can show the same effects as does the war veterans. Up to the point of hiding in the closets at nighttime, fear when yelling is happening between others. This could make the victim leave due to flashbacks.

Post- traumatic stress disorder is not only a horrible fear, but it is also dangerous as in the victim who has post- traumatic stress can become violent when they feel they are in danger. This not only affects the life of the victim, but it is also affecting the life of the people who live with, or are close to the victim.
